It seems to me that there is something wrong with the ticket purchase system when booking three separate round trip flights (Sapporo - DC, DC - South Carolina, DC - London) is cheaper than getting an itinerary that lets me visit each place in turn (Sapporo - South Carolina, South Carolina - DC, DC - London, London - Sapporo).
